The Register Hacked

by Jago Maniscalchi  //  September 4, 2011  //  News  //  No comments

The popular technical news website ‘The Register’ has been defaced today in an attack by a Turkish hacking group known as ‘TurkGuvenligi’. The group have declared September 4th to be ‘World Hackers Day’.

Early indications are that the attack may be DNS based because the defaced site appears only on certain networks. This seems to be confirmed by DNS lookups from around the world (below), which are showing different responses. From the UK, the 68.68.20.116 IP is showing the defaced website.
